Nowadays, many teeth which previously would need to have been extracted can be treated and saved. It is possible thanks to the highly specialised field of dentistry called endodontics. Endodontic treatment is known as root canal treatment. This kind of treatment basically means the removal of the infected or dead pulp from the root system of theteeth, mechanical and chemical processing of the system and then tight permanent filling with a specially developed substance.

If the first visit passes a in pleasant and friendly atmosphere, it is likely that your child will be happy to visit the dentist regularly without fear or anxiety.

It is advisable to take your child for the first visit to the dentist when they are between two and three years old. At this age it is unlikely that they will have any caries, so the first visit is usually a tooth check-up without any drilling required. As a result, your child will leave the surgery with the feeling that they can be proud of their teeth.

When you make an appointment for the first time, please remember to inform us about any previous dental treatment that your child has had. On the basis of this information we will prepare the visit accordingly and book a suitable amount of time. Even if we do find cavities during the check-up we do not drill during the first visit as its purpose is for your child to get to know us. This painless visit is especially important in creating an atmosphere of trust and friendship between us and your child.

Before entering the surgery it is advisable to avoid any comments such as ‘it won’t hurt you’. This kind of comment evokes the child’s suspicion that ‘something’s going on’. Furthermore, if the treatment is unpleasant your child will feel disappointed that you have misled them.
